Simon Bosschieter
Senior Product Owner / Product Lead
Profile
Senior freelance and interim Product Owner who takes on product ownership himself and delivers working software, not advice from the sidelines. For new builds, implementations and further development: a roadmap that keeps slipping, a team that is busy but does not deliver, business and tech that do not understand each other, or a new product and team from scratch. 22+ years, 25+ products, 9 industries, teams of 7 to 46 people in the Netherlands and India, four times a management team member with P&L responsibility.
Energy and eMobility as the specialism: almost four years at Vattenfall, from charging station configurator and Partner API (now 50% of charging station sales) to Smart Charging and the Home Energy Management platform with Kraken. Before that e-commerce, EdTech, healthcare, banking, real estate, hospitality, media and gaming.
Strategy and execution in one person: discovery, experiments and pilots before the build, then predictable delivery, from greenfield to SAFe enterprise. A builder, not just a facilitator: started with his own code (Maffia World, 2004) and still runs his own home automation platform today; carries the architecture and integration discussion and takes responsibility for the outcome, without being in the codebase himself any more. Entrepreneur since 2004; co-founder of MyDish.
Currently Senior Product Owner Home Energy Management & eMobility B2C at Vattenfall, the third consecutive engagement there.

Work experience

Senior Product Owner Home Energy Management & eMobility B2C · Vattenfall
Ownership of the eMobility and Home Energy Management backlog, team formation and tenders, in three consecutive, clearly scoped engagements. Between 30 December 2023 and 28 August 2026 the charging products carried 377,337 charging sessions and 7.19 GWh, 59% of it smart charged. Portfolio: charging stations, energy contracts for EV drivers, smart charging, solar charging and grid-balance charging sessions through MijnVattenfall and the Vattenfall app, which is shifting towards managing and controlling connected devices on API-first foundations.
Results
Engagement 1 · 2023 to 2024 · eMobility sales chain and team
- In 2023 built a greenfield DevOps team from 0 to 7 FTE within four weeks through personal network contacts (backend, frontend, full-stack and a UX specialist), including recruitment and onboarding (now 8).
- Designed one API layer for partners and installers as the backbone of the sales chain: partners submit orders as an additional sales channel, installers pick up orders and report status back; orders are no longer retyped and Vattenfall can connect several installers without depending on a single party.
- Took the self-service charging station configurator live in MijnVattenfall and the Vattenfall app (Azure) as a new sales channel next to telesales: customers configure, order and schedule installation of their charging station themselves.
- Discovery in the field with EV owners steered the scope: the biggest friction was not price but uncertainty about installation planning. That led to a two-way Installer API that shows the installation timeline in the configurator in real time and lets several installers work together without handover gaps.
- Introduced the Partner API, onto which Louwman connected Toyota, Lexus, BYD and Suzuki; 50% of all Vattenfall charging station sales now run through the partner channel.
- Automated order processing between Salesdock and Vattenfall InCharge, sharply reducing error-prone manual entry.
Engagement 2 · 2024 to early 2026 · Smart Charging and the eMobility suite
- Delivered 2 of the 3 Vattenfall NL product launches of 2024: the charging station configurator and Smart Charging via the car.
- Researched the market, the grid-congestion context and the car makers’ apps for Smart Charging, had customers test Figma mock-ups on concrete tasks (reach a goal, find settings, understand the feature), improved the UX on the basis of those tests and had the final design validated again by customers before it was built.
- Built smart charging on Jedlix (2024), the first active control feature in the Vattenfall app and from 2025 to early 2026 extended it with charger-controlled charging via OCPP between Jedlix and Road, so that customers whose car Jedlix does not support can onboard as well.
- Of the 7.19 GWh carried by the charging products between 30 December 2023 and 28 August 2026, 59% was smart charged: charging shifted to moments with lower prices and less grid load.
- Designed the eMobility suite (Microsoft Office analogy): Smart Charging (Jedlix) and charging station management (Road) usable separately, together one Vattenfall experience behind single sign-on.
- Set up ERE (emission reduction unit registration), through which customers with a Vattenfall charging station receive a financial reward based on charging data from Road through the Vattenfall data lake.
- Co-established the first SAFe ART (Optimizing Energy): 4 teams, 4 POs, 2 PMs; actively co-writes the ART’s epics and features.
Engagement 3 · since 2026 · Home Energy Management platform with Kraken
- In 2025 ran a successful PoC with the team on controlling and curtailing solar panels (the top 3 inverters switched on, off and partially on), ahead of the end of the Dutch net-metering scheme in 2027; the outcome led to the choice of a white-label HEMS platform.
- After the PoC weighed building against buying: Vattenfall is not a software company and does not want to maintain OEM integrations with inverters; the choice fell on a white-label HEMS platform, keeping the customer experience in the Vattenfall app in its own hands.
- In 2025 co-wrote the request for tender for a white-label HEMS supplier, broadened from smart charging to the entire smart home and was involved in selecting the partner; Kraken came out of that tender as the winner.
- Since 2026 responsible as Product Owner for integrating the Kraken platform (Octopus Energy) and Home Energy Management into the Vattenfall app: connecting solar panels and switching them on and off automatically based on the energy contract, as the first step towards car, home battery and heat pump.
Responsibilities
- Sets the product vision and roadmap for eMobility and Home Energy Management and underpins the business cases.
- Translates the roadmap through story mapping per Program Increment into epics, features and user stories with acceptance criteria in Azure DevOps, for the configurator, Smart Charging and HEMS.
- Prioritises features and the team backlog with WSJF on value, time criticality, risk and dependencies, with usage data from Piano Analytics and customer feedback through Mopinion as standing input.
- Takes an active part in refinement, sprint planning with a prepared backlog, sprint review with the stakeholders present and retrospective; answers team questions daily and removes blockers.
- Steers the stakeholder field across commerce, energy trading and regulatory affairs, three worlds that rarely read the same timeline, plus customer service and installers in the chain.
- Negotiates the roadmap, records decisions and trade-offs and reports them back to everyone involved.
- Works with architects and the other Product Owners in the ART through PO sync, system demo and PI Planning; safeguards compliance and security requirements in the backlog.
- Selects suppliers and runs vendor management: co-wrote the requests for tender and was involved in selecting Road (CPO platform) and Kraken (HEMS); works daily with the development teams of Jedlix, Road and Kraken.
- Specifies and accepts the end-to-end integrations with customer service, invoicing, licence plate databases and the installers’ planning software.

Co-founder, Director & Senior Product Owner · MyDish B.V.
E-commerce platform for hospitality, born in the pandemic. Own concept: conceived, pitched and built from the start.
Results
- Conceived the digital table session: every guest orders on their own phone within a shared session, with joint or split payment, unique, fixed QR codes and menu configuration per area.
- Started without a codebase or team in April 2020 and took the platform live in the summer of 2020, in TypeScript on Google Cloud; built a product organisation from 0 to 9 across development, design and data science.
- Designed a transaction-based revenue model without fixed software costs on Adyen for Platforms, with automatic splitting of payments between restaurant, platform and partners.
- Delivered a configurable management console per restaurant; Lightspeed integration built by the in-house team and a standalone receipt printer conceived as a fallback for restaurants without a POS that could be connected.
- Cut waiting staff’s administrative time by 40 to 60%, timed and validated across several types of hospitality venue: orders with allergies, preferences, changes and large groups as well as split payments now ran through the guests themselves. Staff seated guests, had them scan the QR code and kept time for advice and serving.
- That freed-up advice time paid the staff back: measured in-house, tips at participating venues rose by 15%.
- Closed partnerships with Lightspeed POS, Adyen, Lavazza and VHC food service wholesale; onboarded restaurants, delivered training and set up a reseller network.
Responsibilities
- Carried, as management team member, director and shareholder, the business case, revenue model, product development and operations, including budgets, contracts and partner agreements.
- Selected suppliers and partners (LinkIT for development, Lightspeed and Adyen) and recruited and onboarded the team.
- Set the product vision and roadmap and wrote, through story mapping with the team, the epics, features and user stories for table session, payment flow and management console in Azure DevOps.
- Prioritised the backlog with WSJF on what restaurants and guests needed first, with usage and order data as input; ran refinement, sprint planning and demos with the in-house team.
- Did discovery, market and competitor research, co-creation sessions and pilots with key restaurants and fed feedback from restaurants, guests, POS vendors and the payment partner into the backlog as a matter of routine.
- Safeguarded performance, quality, stability, security and Total Cost of Ownership of the platform.
- Supported sales at launch in contracting and onboarding the first restaurants and organised training for sales, customer service and customers.

- Set up a key-user structure with representatives from the local markets: discovery and requirements gathering, mock-up testing, local validation and acceptance testing, which took test pressure off the development team.
- Translated local requirements from 10 European markets into central tooling: no local forks, but local flexibility through configuration. On departure the UK, Germany and the Netherlands, among others, were connected.
- Handed the products over to an internally recruited Product Owner once the foundation was in place; the engagement was meant to establish the base and first versions.

- Delivered DMCT/JIT: Azure procurement platform for learning material licences that handles daily peaks of tens of millions of requests for 600,000+ students.
- Redesigned the licensing model of Dutch education through DMCT/JIT: publishers used to deliver 100% of the licences up front, assigned straight away to a named student, class and school, so drop-outs and class or school changes in the first weeks led to buying licences twice. In the new model 80% of expected demand is bought up front, a licence is only named in the chain on first use and the rest is topped up in real time: structurally fewer licences, millions of euros in licence costs saved and a model that was new to Dutch education.
